MY BLEATING MOTHER

Rape,India,Women,Culture

India is now a freedom country with fast developing. The Tricolor is our national flag. We will keep it  flying high in the air. We will always protect it. We salute our national flag! We salute our motherland. But can anyone of us in our process of achievements, hear a whimper down the lanes….

The colour of dark grey and black that has filled her, making her stand in loneliness, emptiness and despair. No one can ever fathom how wretchedly her heart aches, when ruthlessly is her daughter murdered. Her question to every man of this country ‘’is this the reason that you have freed me from the clutches of slavery fighting the battle of freedom 68years ago?’’ Just witness the Ruthless Prudence of such a society—Rape.’’

The Nation has gone forward economically and globally, yet we still lag much behind when it comes to the safety and security of India’s Daughter. It is really piercing to tell that our Country is still nourishing the men dogged with insane mindsets of gender inequality, which end up brutally in action of vengeance by physically assaulting a girl. Our Law doesn’t allow killing anyone without evidence. The victim dies but the juvenile stays alive in context to our National Law, not just for days, months and years together too. Sometimes it feels strange when I come across updates in Papers showcasing years back Rape cases, with the victims either dead or the convict getting infliction of penalty late at age of 60, 70, or sometimes even 90.

A narrow-minded view of Indian culture today has brought us to the edge of a cliff from where there’s no turning back. We can learn so many good things from our culture which we take so much pride in. Why do most Indians choose to embed so vehemently the different roles of the boy and girl in our society out of the many cultural values? A girl can’t but a boy must.  Why should only she be guarded by her father when she’s young and her husband once she’s married? Why can’t every man protect women around the world? Further, why doesn’t society understand that a woman can protect herself? Why should she need protection at all? Can’t society be safe for all? There seems to be no difference between living in a jungle and living in a concrete jungle. Either way, you’re surrounded by animals.

Despite several women occupying high offices, discrimination and violence is something which still women are facing across the country. A report by Thomas Reuters Foundation Survey says ; India has been adjudged the fourth most dangerous country in the world for women due to sexual harassment, rape, acid throwing, “honour killings,” selective abortions, bride burning, and trafficking live in.

Such offences against women are acts of aggression to establish that they are secondary citizens. Women’s’ role is confined with this patriarchal culture for the sake of reproduction and for accumulation of wealth, neglecting her contribution to the nation’s GDP. Marriage is noted to be the ultimate in her life. The moment anything gets enough outrage, the head hawks do the only thing they know – ban it! So far as lawmakers are concerned, India’s a nation of ninnies excluding two brain cells to rub together, with the complete incompetency to make our own choices or understand anything.

Sex in movies? Ban it or they might get ideas. Cuss words? Get rid of them, it will corrupt impressionable minds. Someone said the word ‘beef’? Beep it. Governments can change, but this censoring need, just doesn’t go away. Are we are rather scared to face the truth.

The Government doesn’t allow anyone to question the rapist. Ban anything and everything related to rapists’ .Why are we offended? Are we scared of seeing exactly how similar the rapist’s views are to those of high-ended mass and a lot of regular people in our society? Or is it because we don’t want the Western world to realize just how deeply patriarchal and parochial some Indian citizens can be?

Lest we forget, we live in a land where marital rape is still continuing and child marriage is fine (if the bride’s Muslim). There was a huge outcry when Slumdog Millionaire came out and the outrage was led by Amitabh Bachchan who took offense to Danny Boyle’s portrayal of slums in India. That is indeed the general Indian way of dealing with things – stay away from confrontation, pretend it doesn’t exist and that’s very, very harmful.

Let’s not allow India to be labeled as the country of rape and ravage rather than tolerance and understanding. As I write the Nations bitter truth, I know some woman somewhere is being attacked. As an Indian, as a woman, it is the most loathsome thought to bear in mind.

Education is the key to end such problems. I hope more citizens of my country realize this sooner. It is Literacy that enabled me to pen my thoughts but my education is what made me think.

We can’t just celebrate a Republic Day and Independence Day by welcoming Grandee Personages from worldwide by escorting them with 7 layer security rings ,when the Daughters of our own Nation are unsafe and still seek for JUSTICE.

My Mother is still shrieking …….and asking Justice?????
