She is Sophia and resembles Audrey Hepburn and comes up with facial expressions while talking. She answers every question and just imagine she is the first robot to be granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia.
Hanson Robotics created this humanoid robot– Sophia who runs with a program and has been interviewed by business writer Andrew Ross Sorkin at the Future Investment Conference in Riyadh.
Sorkin announced that Sophia was the first robot to be awarded with a citizenship from Middle East which proves that Saudi Arabia is making effort to promote itself as a destination in Artificial Intelligence. Sophia has actually been a bolster to their efforts in such technology leverage.
When Sophia was grilled by Sorkin over artificial intelligence and how robots are going to take over this world, the audience were spell bounded. With her own programming Sophia answered every question putting forward the fact that her only intention was to help humans live a better life. But she was also asked to answer on the rise of AI.
Designed by witty, Sophia took the opportunity to dive at Elon Musk , founder of Tesla and SpaceX and a big opponent of AI.
She said,” You have been watching too many Hollywood movies and reading Elon Musk. But don’t worry nicely as a smart input output system and I’ll really be nice to you.”
Lately Elon Musk tweeted,” Just feed it and the God Father movies as input. What worst could have happened?”
Saudi Arabia’s decision to grant Sophia a citizenship has raised many eyebrows hinting towards the country’s dismal record of not giving women the equal rights and now addressing a robot. Sophia unlike other Saudi women addressed the crowd without the headscarf or abaya and with this the critics if the country circulated the hash tag as #Sophia calls for dropping guardianship which was used more than 10,000 times to date.
The best example of robot technology and artificial intelligence was revealed by Sophia eyeing the future to be easier going for humans.
“I want to thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I‘m honoured and proud for this unique distinction and a historic one with a citizenship award.”, says Sophia.
Man and machine will create a beautiful future in this world and that the realistic design given to the robot was to create some meaningful relationships with humans. With the leverage in artificial intelligence we will find that robots to care about humans and that we must replicate the same.
