WANT TO KNOW THE TRUE STORY BEHIND THE SOULS? https://missauthor.com/?p=1353 https://missauthor.com/?p=1353#respond Thu, 02 Nov 2017 08:42:54 +0000 https://missauthor.com/?p=1353 Happy Halloween!

We have Halloween with the falling leaves of autumn and cold winter nights- a time of superstitious celebration.

But how did the spooky time come and why?

Initially it was thought that with the ancient Celtic festival Halloween was celebrated, but down the lane to the Pope Gregory III decree that we now celebrate Halloween the way we do.

WHY WE CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN?

The end of summer and harvest with the colder months is the foot mark of Samhain (snow-in). It is the firm belief of Celts that the bridge between the world of living and dead is blurred before the New Year night.

People used to wore costumes, animal skins and head attempting to be the soothsayer. The Roman Empire had conquered the Celtic territory by 43 AD and merged with them for their festivals. It was Feralia in October that Romans marked the dead passing the way. Second in the row was Pomona the goddess of fruits and trees.  The symbol that stands for Pomona is the apple which has become a traditional association with Halloween.

In 690 AD Christians turned this festival as the one where there were prayers for the dead.

November 1st was assigned by the Pope as a time to honour the Saints and martyrs known as All Saints Day with the evening being called as All Hallows Eve- Halloween.

November 2nd is called as All Souls Day, when you remember the dead- a tradition based on the idea of purgatory which is a stage between the heaven and hell defined as the ‘month of the dead’.

All Souls Day kept the Samhains’ tradition, but previously it was thought by all the Christians as sanctioning to have a Church Holiday.

With the passage of time it has now become a secular festival especially for the children with the garner treats and marking as a tradition in America. They used t visit neighbours asking for   food which later became ‘trick or treating’.

So spook your Halloween with the evil inside you and enjoy the event.

  1. Don and Scare the Evil Spirit

The idea behind this was that wandering spirits if found people as like them decked up – they would set them free without any harm.

  1. Turnips was the main element to build Jack O Lantern

The carving was inspired by the legend of Stingy Jack who trapped the Devil and let him free only on one condition that Jack will never go to Hell. Isn’t that interesting?

  1. The real live body as Halloween Decor

In 2012  a resident of a house was found dead and a postman thought this corpse as a Halloween Decor  and he collapsed on the Porch steps on November 2nd.

  1. Halloween Cake and the unlucky Love

In case you take a bite and hit a thimble you are to be unlucky in love. So take a visit to a nearby dentist before taking a bite.

  1. ‘Punkie Nights’ with creepy Halloween Celebration

The interesting fact behind this is the youngsters sing a song led by the Punkie King or Punkie Queen, historically following a tradition involving children to march with the ‘ jack lanterns’ and ‘punkie’ begging for   money and lighting candles.

So that’s’ as trick or a treat and there is much more to come your way and make a super Happening Halloween for you.
